Meet Luisa Cacciaguida, MD
Thank you for joining me here!
I’m Dr. Cacciaguida, a holistic psychiatrist based in NJ.
I earned my B.S. in Biology, with minors in Italian and Economics, at Ramapo College of New Jersey, then studied medicine at St. George’s University School of Medicine. Afterwards, I completed a four-year psychiatry residency program at Stony Brook University.
I’d like to share how I work with the people I see. My approach is different from much of modern psychiatric care, which is often constrained by brief visits, quick decisions, and limited opportunity to fully understand what someone is experiencing.
In my practice, initial evaluations are a full 60 minutes, with no less than 30-minute follow-up visits. Early in treatment, we often meet biweekly to provide close support and make timely adjustments, so you’re not left navigating difficult symptoms on your own.
We begin by addressing the most immediate concerns, whether that’s anxiety, panic, depression, or sleep, so you can experience relief. While stabilizing symptoms, we look for what’s driving them and build a personalized plan to support lasting improvement and stronger stability.
I call myself a holistic psychiatrist because mental health is shaped by many factors and I focus on addressing them together as a whole.
This involves evaluating commonly overlooked contributors, such as sleep disorders, thyroid or blood sugar issues, and nutrient deficiencies or imbalances like vitamin B12, vitamin D, iron, omega-3s, magnesium, zinc, and copper. It also considers lifestyle factors, including sleep, nutrition, movement, stress, social connection, and mindful screen and social media use.
All of these elements are part of your treatment, not afterthoughts, and are considered alongside medication and therapy. The goal is to help you feel better soon while addressing what may be driving your symptoms for lasting improvement.
I’m here to help you understand and address your mental health with a thoughtful, thorough, brain-body-mind approach.
I look forward to meeting you.
With care,
